As of 5 p.m., local authorities were still on the lookout for a subject who fled on foot after a high speed chase ended with the suspect crashing into a wooded area just outside of town around 11 a.m. Marion Police Chief Ray O'Neal said William Thomas Mayer Jr., who lives on First Street in Marion, is facing as many as 10 different charges when he is apprehended.

O'Neal began the pursuit on West Depot Street after seeing a Mazda Tribute driven by Mayer shoot across South Main Street without stopping at the busy intersection. The pursuit continued on East Depot Street/Ky. 506 at speeds up to 75 mph, according to radio traffic. It continued outside the Marion city limit, and just beyond the Briarwood Subdivision, the suspect left the roadway, traveling through a field and into a wooded area down a steep bank. The car came to a rest after striking several trees.
A man in the passenger seat was held for questioning but released.
O'Neal said camera footage outside Marion City Hall showed Mayer's vehicle narrowly missed slamming into a truck traveling down Main Street
